What to Expect on Your Moving Day
Moving day is the moment everything comes together after weeks of planning, packing, and preparation. While it can feel overwhelming, knowing what to expect can help the day run smoothly and reduce unnecessary stress. Whether you’re moving across town or relocating further away, having a clear idea of how the day will unfold makes the experience much easier to manage.
An Early Start
Most moving days begin early in the morning. Our teams typically arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am, depending on the schedule and the distance involved in the move. When they arrive, they will usually introduce themselves, carry out a quick walkthrough of the property, and confirm which items are being moved. This ensures everyone is on the same page before loading begins.
Loading the Removal Van
Once the plan is confirmed, the removal team will begin carefully loading your belongings into the van. Professional movers are trained to handle furniture and fragile items with care, using protective materials such as blankets, straps, and padding to prevent damage during transport. Larger pieces of furniture may be dismantled if necessary to make them easier and safer to move.
The loading process can take several hours depending on the size of the property and the number of belongings being transported. During this time, it’s helpful to keep important documents, valuables, and essentials separate so they stay with you.
Final Checks Before Leaving
Before leaving the property, it’s important to do a final walkthrough of the house. Check cupboards, wardrobes, loft spaces, and garages to make sure nothing has been left behind. This is also a good time to take meter readings for gas, electricity, and water, and ensure windows and doors are secured before handing over the keys if required.
The Journey to Your New Home
Once everything is loaded, the removal team will travel to your new property. If you’re moving locally, this may only take a short time, but longer-distance moves will naturally take longer. It’s often best for homeowners to travel separately so they can arrive at the new property ready to direct the movers.
Unloading and Getting Settled
When the removal van arrives, the team will begin unloading your belongings and placing boxes and furniture into the correct rooms. If boxes are clearly labelled, this process becomes much faster and more organised. We will also reassemble furniture they dismantled earlier in the day.
Once everything is inside, you can start the process of unpacking and settling into your new home.
A Fresh Start
Moving day can be busy, but it also marks the start of an exciting new chapter. With the right preparation and a reliable removal team, the process can be far smoother than many people expect. By understanding what happens on the day, you can approach your move with confidence and focus on enjoying your new home.
