Removals UK to Spain

Moving from the UK to Spain is one of the most popular international relocations British families make, and it is also one where the paperwork and logistics have changed significantly since Brexit. Stranks Removals and Storage has been handling moves from Kent to the continent since 1941, and as a full BAR member we manage the whole journey: packing, loading, customs documentation, transport through France and delivery to your new Spanish address. This page sets out exactly how a UK to Spain move works with us.

Our UK to Spain Removal Service

Packing for a Move to Spain

A long road move places more stress on poorly packed goods than a local move ever would, so packing matters more, not less, when you are moving abroad. Our packing services cover full, partial and fragile-only packing using export-standard materials built for long-distance transit.

When our team packs your belongings, they are covered under our insurance from the point of packing, and a professionally documented inventory also makes the customs process considerably smoother. For a move to Spain we recommend full or fragile-only packing on anything valuable or breakable, simply because of the distance and the number of handling points along the route.

Storage Before, During or After Your Move

Spanish moves rarely line up perfectly with UK completion dates, and many customers need somewhere to hold belongings between selling in the UK and taking possession in Spain. Our storage facility is a 13,000 sq ft owned warehouse at our Ashford depot with capacity for up to 250 individual containers, available from £13.80 per week including VAT.

You can store the full contents of your home in the UK and have us ship to Spain when your new property is ready, or hold back items you are not taking immediately. Storage is on the same site as our depot, so loading for onward transport to Spain is straightforward when the time comes.

How a UK to Spain Move Works

A move from Kent to Spain is a road move via the Channel crossing at Folkestone or Dover, through France and down to your Spanish destination. Depending on the region, transit is typically five to eight days from collection to delivery, longer for the south coast and the islands.

Most household moves to Spain travel as either a dedicated full load (your belongings alone in the vehicle, best for whole-house moves and tighter timescales) or a part load, also called groupage, where your goods share space with other consignments heading the same way. Groupage is popular for UK to Spain moves because it keeps costs down on what is a long route, with the trade-off of slightly less flexible delivery dates. We will recommend the right option once we understand your volume and timing.

Our European removals service covers the full route from our Ashford depot, which sits close to the Channel ports and gives us a practical head start on every continental job.

Why Move to Spain with Stranks

Stranks Removals and Storage is a four-generation family firm trading from Ashford in Kent since 1941. We hold full BAR membership with the BAR Advanced Payment Logo, giving your deposit formal protection, and we are certified to BS EN 12522, the British Standard for furniture removal services. David Strank sits on the BAR Board of Directors.

We run our own fleet and employ our own crews, so the team that packs your home is accountable for it through to delivery in Spain. We hold a 9.7 out of 10 on Referenceline from 380 reviews, with 98% of customers recommending us. Moving to Spain does not need to be complicated, and our job is to keep the logistics off your plate while you focus on the move itself.

Where in Spain We Move To

We move to destinations across mainland Spain and arrange onward delivery to the islands. The most common destinations for our Kent customers are:

  • Costa del Sol including Marbella, Malaga, Fuengirola and Estepona
  • Costa Blanca including Alicante, Torrevieja, Denia and Javea
  • Costa Cálida including Murcia and the Mar Menor
  • Inland and city moves including Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona and the Andalusian interior
  • Almería and the Costa de Almería

Spanish coastal developments often come with the same access challenges we plan for in the UK: gated urbanisations, narrow approach roads, parking restrictions and apartment blocks with limited lift access. We confirm access at the delivery address as part of the survey so the right vehicle and crew arrive prepared.

Customs and Documentation Since Brexit

Since the UK left the EU, moving personal belongings to Spain requires customs clearance. The main route for people relocating is the Transfer of Residence (ToR) relief, which can allow your used household goods to enter Spain free of import duty and VAT if you meet the residency and ownership conditions.

In practice this means a detailed, valued inventory of everything you are moving, plus supporting documentation around your move and residency. We have handled European moves through the post-Brexit customs system since it came in and will guide you on what is needed and when. We are not tax or immigration advisers, so for residency matters such as the NIE number, your padrón registration or visa status we will always recommend you confirm details with the relevant Spanish authority or a specialist adviser.

Transit time depends on the destination. For most mainland Spanish moves, allow five to eight days from collection to delivery, with the southern coast taking longer. A dedicated full load is usually quicker than a shared part load (groupage), where delivery dates are slightly less flexible. We confirm an expected window when we quote. Get a quote for your route.

Groupage, or a part load, means your belongings share vehicle space with other consignments travelling the same route. It is usually more cost-effective than a dedicated full load on a long route like the UK to Spain, with the trade-off of less flexible delivery dates. For whole-house moves or tighter timescales, a dedicated load is often the better choice. We recommend the right option based on your volume and timing.
