As a full, partial or fragile-only service, with materials supplied and everything labelled by room, usually the day before your move. This matters more in period and rural properties, where fragile items and awkward access carry more risk.
Four generations of the Strank family have moved Kent households since 1941, and the business is still family run today. The same trained team handles your move from survey to delivery, with no job handed to a subcontractor on the day. Our crews know the A20 corridor and the ME17 lanes because they work them regularly.
On credentials: Stranks holds full British Association of Removers (BAR) membership, including the BAR Advanced Payment scheme, and is certified to BS EN 12522, the British Standard for furniture removal services for private individuals. BS EN 12522 audits process, training and vehicles, and few independent Kent removers carry it. We are also Checkatrade certified and a member of the Furniture and Home Improvement Ombudsman scheme, with a 9.7 out of 10 rating across 380 verified reviews.
We are based in Ashford, not Harrietsham. That is deliberately honest: you get a full-depot operation a short run down the A20, not a one-van outfit.
Harrietsham is really two places for a removals crew, and they load very differently.
The A20 frontage carries fast, steady traffic, and stopping a large van directly on the main carriageway is neither safe nor practical. For properties fronting the A20 we position the vehicle in a side road or driveway and plan the carry route in advance rather than blocking a live road on the day.
The old village, south of the A20 up toward the North Downs around the church and the historic almshouses, has narrow lanes, on-street parking and period cottages. These older homes bring tight doorways, winding staircases and low ceilings, so pieces are handled by hand with full protection, and larger items are dismantled where needed to get them out cleanly.
The rural ME17 properties, the farms and detached homes set back off the lanes, often sit at the end of long private drives or unmade tracks that a full-size pantechnicon cannot get down. Where that is the case we run a smaller shuttle vehicle between the property and the main van, which we confirm at survey rather than discovering on moving day.
We settle the vehicle, crew and parking plan at the survey stage, so the access is worked out before the move, not during it.
Harrietsham sits on the A20 between Maidstone and Lenham, and most moves here connect to the wider area. See our main Maidstone removals page for the town, Lenham removals for the village just east, and Charing removals further along the A20 toward Ashford. We cover the surrounding villages including Hollingbourne, Lenham Heath and Ulcombe from the same depot.
Yes. The A20 is busy and stopping a large van on the main carriageway is neither safe nor practical, so for A20-frontage properties we position the vehicle in a side road or driveway and plan the carry route in advance. We confirm all of this at the survey rather than working it out on the morning.
Yes. Where a full-size van cannot get down an unmade track or narrow drive, we run a smaller shuttle vehicle between the property and the main van. We check the approach during the survey so the right vehicles are booked for the day.
Harrietsham is roughly 12 miles from our Wotton Trading Estate depot, around 20 minutes via the A20 or M20 depending on traffic. We plan an early depot departure so the crew arrives at the agreed time and the day runs to a clear timetable.
Yes. The older cottages around the church and almshouses are a regular part of our work. Narrow doorways, winding staircases and low beams are handled by hand with full protection, and larger items are dismantled where needed to avoid damage to the piece or the property.
Every move is priced individually on the volume of belongings, the number of rooms, access at both addresses, and the distance. We do not publish fixed prices because they rarely reflect the real job. Get a free quote and we will come back with clear, itemised pricing.
As early as you can. We are often booked up, particularly on end-of-month and Friday dates, so the sooner you are in touch the more likely we can hold your preferred day. If your date is flexible, mid-week and mid-month slots are easier to secure.
