Moving in West Malling: Access and Property
West Malling is really two places for a removals crew, and they load very differently.
The Georgian High Street and old town sit in a conservation area, with handsome townhouses and period cottages right on the street, many with no off-road parking and protected as listed buildings. These older homes bring tall, narrow staircases, period features and limited access, so pieces are carried by hand with full protection and larger items are dismantled where needed. Parking on the High Street and around Swan Street is limited, so we plan the loading position and any parking suspension in advance rather than blocking a busy street on the day.
King’s Hill and the newer estates, built on the former West Malling airfield, are far more straightforward for a large vehicle, with wider estate roads, though permit parking and estate access still need checking first, which we handle before the day.
The outlying homes toward Addington, Offham and Ryarsh sit along narrower lanes with longer approaches, where we confirm a turning point or run a smaller shuttle vehicle if a full-size van cannot reach the door.
We settle the vehicle, route, crew and parking plan at the survey, so the access is worked out before moving day rather than on it.
